Winter Tree Ponderings…

Pond Dragon, December 2021

I planted about 30 baby trees in the Fall. So far I see life is still in most of them as we go down to freezing temperatures almost nightly. But none of this is going to help the winds that come through the mountains over the next few years – certainly not until they grow to the right size. So I will be placing a wind-mesh screen along the fence before the Spring.

These were planted mainly in September-October, 2021.

I’ve been also looking into Paulownia Elongatas, which would need to be on the Eastern side where the winds aren’t so bad. But they could provide shade and tree presence in a timely manner. I am pondering on building wind screens around them should I be able to propagate any… More to come…
